Microsoft Authenticator Registration
Microsoft Authenticator App Step-By-Step Guide
How to Install and Setup Microsoft Authenticator
Prior to City of Bellevue pushing the Windows 11 update to your machine, it is required you set up your Microsoft Authenticator to prevent log-in issues.
To start the process yourself:
Step 1: Please sign in to your work account and then go to your My Account portal.

Step 2: Select Security info in the left menu or by using the link in the Security info pane. If you have already registered, you'll be prompted for two-factor verification.
Step 3: Select Add method in the Security info pane.

Step 4: On the Add a method page, select Authenticator app from the list, and then select Add.

Step 5: On the Start by getting the app page, select Download now to view download instructions. Choose and scan the QR code displayed on your PC screen with your mobile device’s camera. Please choose the correct QR code depending on your mobile device (Apple vs. Android) and download the app from your mobile device’s app store. Then, return to your PC screen and select Next.

Step 6: Select Next again.

Step 7: Select Next again. Stay on this page with the QR code and open your mobile device.

Step 8: Open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Step 9: Select to allow notifications (if prompted). Accept the Privacy statement and hit Continue.

Step 10: Select Add account from the Customize and control icon on the upper-right, and choose Scan a QR code.

Step 11: The first time you set up the Microsoft Authenticator app, you might receive a prompt asking whether to allow the app to access your camera (iOS) or to allow the app to take pictures and record video (Android). You must select Allow so the authenticator app can access your camera to take a picture of the QR code in the next step. If you don't allow the camera, you can still set up the authenticator app, but you'll need to add the code information manually. For more information about manually adding a code, see Manually add an account to the app.
If you are still having trouble downloading the app to your mobile device, see Download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Step 12: Return to the Set up your account page on your computer, and then select Next. The Scan the QR code page appears. Please scan the QR code with your camera.\

Step 13: The authenticator app should successfully add your work account without requiring any additional information from you. However, if the QR code reader can't read the code, you can select Can't scan the QR code and manually enter the code and URL into the Microsoft Authenticator app. For more information about manually adding a code, see Manually add an account to the app.
Step 14: Select Next on the Scan the QR code page on your computer. A notification is sent to the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device, to test your account.

Step 15: Approve the notification in the Microsoft Authenticator app, and then select Next. Your security info is updated to use the Microsoft Authenticator app by default to verify your identity when using two-step verification or password reset.

Step 16: After receiving the “Notification approved” message, hit Next.

Step 17: Congratulations! Your Microsoft Authenticator app is now successfully registered and ready to use.
